ARPCA Pitt Race - Autocross Event #1

About this event

Autocross (AX) will give you the opportunity to test yourself and develop your own skill set, as well as learn the limits of your vehicle in a safe and controlled environment. All events are based around a course made of traffic cones and each lap timed for each driver. AX seldom exceeds speeds of 60 mph and has no “wheel to wheel” competition.

AX is a great entry-level competitive driving event that requires little car prep, time or money. Beginners are welcome and there are no pre-requisites other than a vehicle in safe working condition.  Before each event begins there is a guided Course Walk that takes you step by step through the driving line and explains how to navigate through the cones. This is especially helpful for first-timers and those that want a second perspective.

While the size of the field will determine the number of runs which occur last year we averaged 4 - 6 runs in both the morning and afternoon.

  • SaturdayJuly 12 OR Sunday July 13 PVGP Autocross School - Hosted by Steel Cities SCCA
  • Sunday, August 10 at PittRace
  • Saturday and/or Sunday October 11-12 at PittRace - Wounded Warrior Benefit AX 
  • Saturday October 19 at Greensburg/JeanetteRegional Airport

Cost:

  • PCA Member: $30 per driver.  
  • Non-member: $40 per driver.  
  • On-site registration is $40.

  • Gates open 8am
  • Open Course walk 8:15-9:30
  • Registration begins 8-9:15
  • Tech 8:30-9:30
  • Guided course walk 9:30
  • Drivers meeting 9:45
  • First Car off 10:00
  • Number of runs will be determined by number of participants – There will at least be 4 runs per driver in the AM and 4 in the PM session

If multiple drives in one car must register separately!

Event requirements

Requirements:

  • You can use any car that has a valid state inspection. Though it is not required we recommend that you have your car inspected by you local mechanic to assure that all the running gear is in working order.
  • Drivers must be 16 or older and have a valid Drives License - please bring this with you to the event
  • Helmets which meet the Snell 2005 or newer rating are required.  Apex Performance has been a strong sponsor to ARPCA and can help you with a new helmet: Apex Performance
  • Each car will undergo a technical inspection at the course
  • Note: Every participant will be asked to volunteer in some way.  This can include Seting up, registration, flagging, cone setup/replacmement, breakdown, etc. 

Car Classification:

During registration you will be asked to select car category and class your car best fits.  There are four categories of classes for Porsches – Showroom Stock, Production, Improved and Modified. Categories are related to automobile configuration. There is a separate category for all non-Porsche vehicles.

  • Showroom Stock (S) category contains classes of automobiles as normally delivered and specified for use in the United States and Canada. Factory options as normally available for a specific model year are permitted. Certain factory and/or dealer installed equipment/ options will move an automobile out of S and into Production or higher so as to maintain the intent and integrity of the Showroom Stock classes.  Choose this class if your car has no modifications.
    • S1: 968 (All), 911 Carrera 2 (964:1990-1994), Carrera 4 (964:1989-1994), RS America (1993-1994), Boxster (986:1997-2004), Cayenne (9PA:2003- On), Panamera (2010- On)
       
    • S2: 911 Carrera (993:1995-1998), Boxster S (986:2000- 2004), Boxster (987:2005-On), Cayman (2006-On)
       
    • S3: 911 Carrera (996:1999-2004), 997 (2005-On), 911C2 Turbo (965: 1991-1994), Boxster S (987:2005-On), Cayman S (2006-On);
       
    • S4: 993 Turbo (All), 996 Turbo (Non-GT2), 997S except X51 (2005-2009), Boxster Spyder, Cayman R
       
    • S5: 997S X51 (2007-2009), 997S/GTS (2010-On), 996 GT2/GT3 (2002-2005), 997 GT2/GT3/GT3RS (2007-On), 997 Turbo (All), Carrera GT (980:2004- On) 
  • Production (P) category contains automobiles (as normally delivered to the United States and Canadian public through authorized sales outlets of the manufacturer) plus others with limited performance-affecting changes from stock. In general, you will choose this class if you have minor upgrades to suspension components, "chipped your car", etc, but you have not added significant performance modifications and the car is still street legal and running on street tires.

  • Improved (I) category contains automobiles with more substantial performance-affecting changes from standard (stock) specification, whether changed by the factory, dealer or owner. These modifications have defined limits. These automobiles are classed according to their number of cylinders and actual displacement.  Read the PCA Autocross rules to determine if you are running in the Improved or Modified categories.
    • I1: Improved Automobiles (All 4 Cylinder, up to 1999cc, 1800 pounds minimum; All 4 Cylinder, 2000cc up to 2699cc, 2500 pounds minimum; All 4 Cylinder, 2700cc and above and All 6 Cylinder, up to 2399cc, 2200 pounds minimum)
       
    • I2: Improved Automobiles (All 6 Cylinder and above, 2400cc up to 3199cc, 2150 pounds minimum; All 6 Cylinder and above, 3200cc and above; 2700 pounds minimum; All Turbo/Supercharged 4 Cylinder; 2150 pounds minimum; All Turbo/Supercharged 6 cylinder and above; 2500 pounds minimum)
       
  • Modified (M) category contains automobiles that have performance-affecting modifications outside of the limits of the Improved category and for race automobiles (factory-built or otherwise). These automobiles are classed according to their specified number of cylinders and actual displacement.
    • M1: Modified Automobiles (All 4 Cylinder, up to 1999cc, 1800 pounds minimum; All 4 Cylinder, 2000cc up to 2699cc, 2500 pounds minimum; All 4 Cylinder, 2700cc and above and All 6 Cylinder, up to 2399cc, 2200 pounds minimum)
       
    • M2: Modified Automobiles (All 6 Cylinder and above, 2400cc up to 3199cc, 2150 pounds minimum; All 6 Cylinder and above, 3200cc and above; 2700 pounds minimum; All Turbo/Supercharged 4 Cylinder; 2150 pounds minimum; All Turbo/Supercharged 6 cylinder and above; 2500 pounds minimum)
       
  • X-Class - Non-Porsche (X) category contains all non-Porsche automobiles. These automobiles are classed according to their specified number of cylinders and actual displacement.
    • X1: Non-Porsche Automobiles (All 4 Cylinder, up to 1999cc, 1800 pounds minimum; All 4 Cylinder, 2000cc up to 2699cc, 2500 pounds minimum; All 4 Cylinder, 2700cc and above and All 6 Cylinder, up to 2399cc, 2200 pounds minimum)
       
    • X2: Non-Porsche Automobiles (All 6 Cylinder and above, 2400cc up to 3199cc, 2150 pounds minimum; All 6 Cylinder and above, 3200cc and above; 2700 pounds minimum; All Turbo/Supercharged 4 Cylinder; 2150 pounds minimum; All Turbo/Supercharged 6 cylinder and above; 2500 pounds minimum)

Costs:

PCA Member: $30.  
Non Member: $35.
On Site Registraton: $40.

Each driver must register separately. 

Payment

You will be asked for a credit card when you register.  We will charge your credit card after your registration has been reviewed and approved by the event chairs. 

You may adjust your registration on-line.  Any additional charges will be reviewed and charged as appropriate to your credit card.  If refunds are appropriate we will send you a check.  Any refunds will be subject to the standard cancellation policy outlined in the cancellation section for this event.
