2016 North Carolina Autocross Championship (NCAC)

Jerry Sutton Training Center

About this event

The North Carolina Autocross Championship (NCAC) is a joint venture between 5 autocross clubs in North Carolina, with hosting duties rotating among the member clubs. This year the event will be hosted by Highlands Sports Car Club (HSCC). In addition to competing in their individual classes, drivers will also be representing their home club in the NCAC Club Cup, with the winning club taking home the trophy for the next 12 months. This event is open to any licensed driver (and kart drivers 12+ years old with proper documentation) regardless of their membership status in any individual club.

For HSCC members wondering what happened to Day Series #6, originally scheduled for Saturday October 1st, this event will take its place. Drivers competing for points in our 2016 Day Series will be awarded points for the event based on results from Saturday only.

Venue Address:

Jerry Sutton Public Safety Training Center

225 Industrial Park Loop

Franklin, NC 28734

Entry Fees:

Both Days: $60  (includes event t-shirt)

Saturday or Sunday: $40

On-site Registration Fee: $40

Yes, you read that correctly. If you do not register online before online registration closes at midnight on Thursday, September 29th, we will charge you an additional $40 to register on event day. This fee will apply to both 2-day or single day registrations done on-site.

Please note that when you register online, your payment information is captured and verified, but you will not actually be charged until you physically check-in at the event. This eliminates the need to issue refunds if you find you cannot make it after you have already registered. (And on that note, please cancel your registration yourself if you learn that you cannot attend.)

About Tech Inspection:

We will honor the annual tech program of any member club. If you trust your members enough to issue them annual tech stickers which allow them to bypass tech inspection at your events, then we will trust them to properly inspect and prepare their car for this event as well. Anyone not possessing a valid Annual Tech sticker must have their car inspected by our Tech crew.

Classes:

All classes recognized by the SCCA (except kart classes allowing drivers younger than 12) will be supported. Individual Ladies classes will be PAXed into a single class. No Novice class will be offered. No Pro class will be offered. In addition to JA and KM, kart drivers may compete in one of three HSCC specific classes - Junior Kart (JK), Adult Kart (AK), Adult Kart Modified (AKM). Information about these HSCC kart classes can be found at our website www.hscc.club.

Club Cup:

This year's Club Cup winner will be determined by combining the 10 fastest PAX time for each club.

Hotel Information:

We have made reservations at 2 area hotels:

Hampton Inn - 244 Cunningham Rd, Franklin, NC 28734, 828-369-0600:

We have reserved 10 double queen and 5 single king rooms at the Hampton Inn for a rate of $149 per night. The rate is guaranteed until September 1st., after that they will open back up to the public at whatever the going rate is at that time (it will be EXPENSIVE). You must call the hotel directly and speak to someone at their front desk to get this rate. Mention Highlands Sports Car Club to get the discounted rate.

The confirmation code for the rate is 87131574.

Comfort Inn - 313 Cunningham Rd, Franklin, NC 28734, 828-369-9200:

We also have a discounted rate at the Comfort Inn (located next door to the Hampton Inn) for $132 per night. We do not have rooms exclusively reserved (they have about 45 left for that weekend as of this writing), but when you call to make a reservation, mention Highlands Sports Car Club and they will give you the discounted rate.

In either case, once these rooms are gone, they’re gone. The Franklin area is VERY popular in the Fall and rates could easily exceed $200/night if you wait till the last minute to book. We urge you to reserve a hotel room as soon as possible if you’re planning to attend NCAC and wish to stay locally.

Camping Information:

We have reserved some group spots at Standing Indian Campground in Franklin. It's located about 20 minutes from the autox site and can accommodate RVs as well as tent camping. We have a total of 25 spots reserved in Group site C (GPC). If you would like to book one of the reserved spots, please contact Chris Polhamus at treasurer@hscc.club or via social media.

Saturday Night Social:

We have reserved the meeting/party room at the Lazy Hiker Brewery located in downtown Franklin from 5pm to close. The room holds about 35 people, but we can spill out into the main room and patio. There will be a food truck outside and live music inside from 8-11pm. According to at least one HSCC officer who did the recon on this, they brew some pretty tasty beers too. What’s more WNC than a social at a microbrewery with live music and food truck? Info about the venue can be found here: http://lazyhikerbrewing.com Please note that PARKING AT THE BREWERY IS LIMITED, but there is an Ingles grocery store with ample parking located about a block away. Finally, this should go without saying, but we’re going to say it anyway: If you choose to partake, we demand that you DRINK RESPONSIBLY. Any behavior that reflects badly on HSCC or the autocross community as a whole will be grounds for exclusion from the event. (This goes for the entire weekend, not just the Saturday night activities.)

Finally, if you have any additional questions about our club or our events, please visit our website where you can find answers to the vast majority of your questions. For anyone new to the sport of autocross, we ask that you take a good look at our Novice Guide. And if you still have questions after viewing the above online documentation, please don't hesitate to ask for help by using the Contact Registrar link on this site, or the contact info on our website.

Event requirements

Insurance Liability Waiver:

Everyone, including any passengers or spectators, must sign the insurance waiver. Basically, this applies to anyone on the property for the duration of the event. No exceptions.

Minimum Age Requirements:

Drivers must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid, full driver's license (provisional licenses are not acceptable). Kart drivers must be at least 12 years old. Any driver under the age of 18 must also have a minor waiver on file with HSCC management. This waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian in the presence of an HSCC officer. Passengers are permitted in the front seat only and they must meet the same requirements as drivers.

Proper car numbers are MANDATORY

For our events to run smoothly it is essential that we be able to properly identify all vehicles at a glance. NUMBERS MADE WITH SHOE POLISH OR TAPE ARE NOT APPROVED FOR HSCC EVENTS. If you do not have magnetic numbers, you may print your own and tape them to your car. Please visit the Autocross page on our website for a link to print your own numbers.
