2015 Quattro de Seca HPDE

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

About this event

Quattro de Seca 2015 at Mazda Raceway, Laguna Seca

Welcome to the registration for Quattro de Seca 2015. This High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) will be held March 6th - 8th at Mazda Raceway, Laguna Seca covering the 2.238 miles of a challenging track with 11 turns and the famous 5-1/2 story drop between turns 8 & 9 known as the Corkscrew.

What is Quattro de Seca?

This is the Golden Gate Chapter's return to one of the most celebrated racetracks in the World.  The popularity of Laguna Seca commands attention from many Clubs, Schools, Manufacturers, and world class racing events.  This event provides a special and unique location to learn about your car and yourself, and to also raise your driving skills and awareness in a learning environment that is fun and safe. It's also a chance to meet and socialize with a diverse group of people who really enjoy their Audi Brand of cars, and many other brands as well.  Please note that Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will impose a strict sound limit of 92dB for this event.

No matter your skill or confidence level, you will most certainly enjoy this Audi Club driving event.

For first timers and novice drivers: you will spend the morning of the first day with approximately 2 hours in the classroom interspersed with about 1.5 hours of car control exercises. It is these driving exercises, with active coaching, that help you understand the dynamics of your vehicle. Your participation in these classroom discussions and car control exercises will enhance your ability to understand and control your car prior to going on-track for the first time. During the car control exercises, you will drive your own car, and will be coached by instructors who are observing your progress from outside the car during the exercise.  This process provides you with the foundational knowledge that you will need in order to get the most out of the event.  After the successful completion of the car control sessions, the remainder of your skill development is done on the track.

All students will have an instructor assigned to them for the entire track event. This one-on-one relationship allows us to provide maximum input to each student and to ensure that all students get the most from their driving experience while we maintain a safe, controlled learning environment. Students will drive their own cars, which will assist them them to develop better driving skills “on the road,” and  in “real-life situations.”  Students are aggregated into Run Groups which are established to allow them to be on track with other drivers of similar experience. First timers and beginning students always have an instructor in the car during on track sessions. Novice, intermediate and advanced drivers will be assigned an instructor and, depending on skill level demonstrated to the instructor during the event, these students may be signed off to solo in the car without an instructor.  To ensure that the club provides each student with a safe and secure environment, passing is allowed only on designated sections of the course, and under controlled circumstances.

Event Details

The event will begin on Friday afternoon, March 6th.  Check-in and technical inspection will begin at 4pm at the Embassy Suites (the host hotel in Seaside CA), and continue until 7pm. Friday evening will also include a separate meeting for all first timers, as well as a mandatory meeting for all instructors, and will finish with a mandatory meeting for all registrants.  More details about the times of these meetings will come in your welcome packet, but you should assume that the meetings will take place from approximately 7pm - 9pm.  Food will be provided at the hotel prior to the drivers' meeting.  We will provide water and lunch at the track Saturday and Sunday.  The Saturday night banquet and auction will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel.  We will also provide coffee along with pastries or doughnuts on Saturday and Sunday morning at the racetrack.

A limited number of garages at the track will be available for rental.  These large garages right next to the track allow you to stay out of the weather. The garages have dual-access and can be shared with up to two cars. Price of $250 is total for the two day event. Reserve early as these will sell out quickly.

The track will open early on Saturday morning and Sunday morning, at approximately 6:30am.  Lunch will be served at the track, and is included in the registration price.  The track will close at approximately 6pm each day, and we will have a banquet and raffle on Saturday evening.   Exact timing and details will be sent to you as part of the welcome packet, which will arrive by email, approximately 1 week prior to the event.

Hotel and Accommodations

The headquarters hotel for the event is the Embassy Suites, 1441 Canyon Del Rey, in Seaside, CA.  This hotel is approximately a 15-20 minute drive from the track.  The hotel has allowed us to reserve rooms for a few days before, and-or after our event, at these discounted rates. So, if you're from out of the Bay Area, why not reserve a few extra days and enjoy all that the Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur coastlines have to offer.  Restaurants and golf courses in Monterey County are often reserved for as much as 6 weeks in advance, so if you're interested in having a great meal while you're in town, think ahead and reserve your spot;  or your tee time.

We recommend that you make your reservation at the Embassy Suites in Seaside ASAP. This is a beautiful facility with very nice rooms - freshened & upgraded recently. We managed to get a great rate for you, as well as reserve the facilities for our Friday evening Driver's meetings and Saturday evening Banquet at this location;  so check-in, greet friends and relax with us, knowing that the Friday night meetings, the Saturday night banquet, and even tech inspection, will be held at Embassy Suites and not at the racetrack. Registered guests at this hotel receive free WiFi access, complimentary evening beverages, and early AM breakfast as a part of their registration.

Additional (Special) Events

Quattro de Seca will include a fun run from the Hotel to Carmel Valley Village for lunch on Friday March 6th.

  • Our invitation is for you to join several of us for a driving tour of the area to see some of the country that surrounds us in Monterey County.   Our plan includes leaving the Embassy Suites Hotel between 10:30 and 11:00 am, at which time we will drive 30-40 minutes south-east to Carmel Valley Village, enjoy a great barbeque lunch, and go about discovering the sights of the local back roads.   We should return in plenty of time to complete Tech Inspection and participate in the meet-and-greet activities preceding the evening's schedule.   There is no set cost to this activity.  Lunch will not be extravagant, and the budget for sightseeing is completely voluntary.  Please sign up to help us be aware of those that want to join in, and then be at the front of the Hotel in time to leave as a group. An announcement with more specifics will go out to those that have registered in advance.  Questions?   Please connect with Larry Whitney at:  larry@pointbygroup.com .
