After all\, how better to enjoy your car than to be confident that you really know how it will react in all situations? The Audi Club has been hosting driving education events at facilities around the country for years. Usually\, these events are held at racetracks\, because those venues provide ample space\, no oncoming traffic\, plenty of runoff room\, and workers before each corner with flags to warn drivers of any upcoming danger. Despite being at a racetrack\, the events are not competitive\, are not timed\, and most certainly are not racing. Beginner students have an experienced instructor in the car at all times to guide them through the learning process. Some intermediate and advanced students start with an instructor in the car\, but graduate to solo status after proving their level of safety and \n skill. Classroom sessions while not in the car provide valuable theory and discussion that complement what is learned in the car. Students are never pushed beyond their comfort and skill levels. Faster drivers are allowed to pass slower drivers under strict guidelines for everyone\'s safety\, keeping all drivers feeling safe and confident of their surroundings. \n \n Lessons and skills learned at these events really do transfer to everyday driving\, as numerous former students attest to all the time. Many prior students report avoiding accidents thanks to things they learned at these events. Many others report simply enjoying their daily commute more knowing more about themselves and their cars. The Alfa Club is known for its trademark &ldquo\;laid back pasta eaters&rdquo\; approach to driving schools. The VSCCA drivers bring their own laid back approach to motorsports with their fleet of historic vintage race cars. \;As in past years\, the two clubs share the track. The Alfa Club conducts a driving school that is interspersed with the Vintage Club&rsquo\;s practice\, qualifying and race sessions. \n \n This year\, our driving school will accommodate intermediate (driver must have completed at least two 2-day HPDE events &ndash\; inquire regarding acceptability of other related experience) and advanced run groups. Each of our run groups will get three sessions a day\, twenty-five minutes each. \n \n For the third consecutive year\, we will follow our enthusiastically received small-bore theme. We will again limit the student groups to cars with nominal displacements at or under 3.5 liters. Although some of our best friends drive big cars with big motors\, this change will keep the run groups just a bit more homogeneous\, reducing speed differentials\, particularly at the ends of the long straightaways. (Please note that there is no displacement limitation for instructor cars.) \n \n This format aims to return us to the tenor of our early schools\, when the grids were predominantly made up of Alfas and other small cars. What an exciting weekend. It will come and go before you know it. We can almost assure you that we will have an assortment of small game running around for your amusement. \;In the past some of us have had the opportunity to nail a few rabbits\, snakes\, or lizards. We just need to keep a close watch and eventually something will pop out in front of your car. There is something there for everybody. \;The plentiful supply of RMR and AMR instructors will tell you &ldquo\;don&rsquo\;t brake\, just keep driving!&rdquo\; \;Don&rsquo\;t worry we don&rsquo\;t serve lunch\; you need to remember to bring your own. The La Junta race track is what is considered &ldquo\;non-technical&rdquo\;. If you have never had your car out on the track it is great track to start one. If you have driven this track as many times as I have\, it is fun to see if you can beat the &ldquo\;60 second&rdquo\; lap time. Some have\, most have not! It\'s a chance to learn more about yourself\, your driving skills\, and your car. It\'s even a chance to meet and socialize with a diverse group of people who really enjoy their Audi Brand of cars. \n \n First-time students at driving schools run by the North Atlantic Audi Club will spend the morning of the first day in a short classroom session and practice three driving exercises to learn vehicle dynamics. The class and exercises are designed to enhance your car control skills and knowledge of your car. \n \n During all driving exercises the students drive their own cars and are coached by club instructors after each pass through the exercise. This provides helpful input to ensure the students gets the most out of the experience\, while maintaining a safe environment. \n \n Running laps on the track makes up the rest of the \'seat-time\' at the events. Run groups are established to allow students to run laps with other drivers of similar experience. Novice students always have an instructor in the car during lapping. Passing is only allowed on straight sections of the course\, and under controlled circumstances\, making for a very safe environment. Lapping on these tracks provides a great opportunity to safely learn advanced driving techniques and explore the capabilities of both car and driver. \n \n Who are we? \n \n NAAC is a chapter of the Audi Club of North America (ACNA)\, which is a 501c(3) non-profit organization with the purpose of educating its members in driver education\, driver safety training and education about the Audi brand. The NAAC serves the members in Maine\, Massachusetts\, New Hampshire\, and Rhode Island area\, but our events are open to anyone. To support the educational experience\, NAAC offers events from new Audi introductions\, Technical seminars\, Do-It-Yourself (DIY) days\, Teen driving clinics\, Adult Clinics\, Winter Driving Schools and High Performance Driver Education throughout the year. NAAC is able to take advantage of many Audi dealerships and well recognized private service centers around the geographic proximity to Boston.
